3mm dry ice pellets are small, cylindrical pieces of solid carbon dioxide (CO₂) that measure approximately 3mm in diameter. They are manufactured by compressing liquid CO₂ into a solid form at extremely low temperatures (−78.5°C / −109.3°F). Because dry ice sublimates—meaning it turns directly from a solid into a gas without becoming liquid—it leaves no moisture behind. This property makes 3mm pellets especially useful in precision cleaning and temperature-controlled processes.
One of the most common applications of 3mm dry ice pellets is dry ice blasting. In this process, pellets are accelerated with compressed air and directed at a surface to remove contaminants such as grease, oil, paint, adhesives, mould, or carbon buildup. When the pellets strike the surface, they create a thermal shock effect that loosens the contaminant. Immediately afterward, the dry ice sublimates into CO₂ gas, lifting debris away without leaving secondary waste.
